ORTHOPEDIC INFORMATION
As veterinary professionals, we have long recognized the need for an orthopedic specialist in the Tri-State area.
We recommend that orthopedic repairs be performed by a board certified specialist such as Ohio State University, Med Vet, or Virginia Tech whenever possible.
When such travel and treatment options are not feasible, Dr. Sette accepts cases for orthopedic repair. As a result of Dr. Shawn Sette’s special interest and training in various orthopedic procedures, he is experienced in:
- bone plating – when a stainless steel or titanium plate is placed on a bone fracture for repair (click for picture examples)
- cruciate repair – replacement of a torn knee ligament with a synthetic band which supports bone attachment when the knee moves and bears weight (click for picture examples)
- patellar luxation repair – a procedure which deepens the natural groove in the knee to prevent the knee cap from dislocating when the pet walks (click for picture examples)
- internal and external fixators – the use of stainless steel pins and wire to repair bone fractures
Our Registered Veterinary Technician, Candace Milam, has studied physical rehabilitation techniques and is available to provide care for your pets with orthopedic or neurology needs for rehabilitation.
